Disaster Recovery

In the event that the Ex.Dir is unable to continue to update this site this document gives an overview of how to operate it.

System Requirements

Browser - Microsoft Edge, Chrome and Firefox should also work.

Word/Excel/Notepad or similar.

Overview

The website accepts text only.  As a consequence of this it is necessary to prepare the required information in Word or Notepad.  If any calculations are necessary e.g. Player Performance/League Tables these should be prepared in Excel and copied into notepad to retain any formatting.

Each document can be copied and pasted into the website with the original documents removed.  It is not possible to paste over an original document.

If issues arise the site contains tutorials to help and also has an email helpdesk.  Note replies normally appear on the next day as Yola is I believe based in California which is 10 hours behind the UK time.

How to Operate the website

To commence it is necessary to copy the individual pages of the current site e.g. each league table, each divisional fixture, each divisional results page (note this is currently split into 2 tables so each half needs to be copied separately), the entire fixture list, for the Barry site each teams results and  Player Performance.  These copies will be the worksheets.  You also need to be added to the matchcard as a recipient of every result.

When a result is received the details need to be typed onto the page to be added to the website.  To retain the style of the website this should be pasted using "Paste Special" and "Unicode Text" into the spreadsheet called copyresult or typed directly into notepad if the basic copyresult page has already been copied into notepad.  The copyresult can now be copied into the relevant worksheet.  The result needs to be typed into the fixture list and the league table updated.  The league table needs to be sorted using custom sort on the home page and AZ! on the toolbar.

Fig 2 is a copy of the Excel spreadsheet for division 4.  This can be sorted into order whenever results are received.  It should then be copied into Notepad before being posted onto the website. Note that the figures below the actual table are there so you can check that everything balances.

You should now be ready to update the website.  Use the login email address and password to open the website.  This will take you to the Dashboard (list of sites as both the Barry and EGCA site are operated through the same login).

Click on the respective "edit this site" and the home page will appear. Select page on the toolbar  and where index appears on the bottom left of the toolbar press the "V" and you can see all the pages in the website (even pages that like this page are not viewable to anyone else).  Scoll down and select the page you wish to update.

Drag the Aa text (old) box onto the part of the page where you want the new text to go.  You can now paste onto the page.  The old page can be deleted by clicking on the "X"  on the top right of the widget and select "OK".  When you have finished with this page press "Save" which can be found at the top right of the page.  You can now publish by pressing the "Publish" button next to the save button or you can go to another page for updating.

I also keep a record for each club regarding the number of matches each player has played.  I do this as there are restrictions for players with a rating of 1940 and above, and a different restriction on players rated 1640 and above but below 1940.

Fig 3 shows the Games played for Bridgend players as at 18th March 2026.  This detail is held on an Excel spreadsheet and does not need to be added to the website.
